Meta said on Monday that it is introducing the 3D avatars to Instagram, as well as improved avatars on Facebook and Messenger. Users in the United States, Canada, and Mexico can now appear in sticker, feed posts, Facebook profile picture, and other places as their online identities. On all platforms, today’s update includes Cochlear implants and an over hearing aids in a range of shades. Wheelchairs are also included in the update, and can be seen as stickers on Facebook and in Instagram Stories and DMs. Meta is also enhancing the appearance of avatars by modifying specific facial forms to help them look more real. The avatar editor will be expand in the future, according to the business.

In a statement uploaded to his Facebook page, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “We’re upgrading Meta avatars with a lot new expressions, faces, and skin colors, and also wheelchairs and hearing aids”. “We’re also experimenting with virtual apparel.  You can use your avatar on Quest, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. One day, you’ll be able to choose from a variety of avatars, varying from expressive to realistic. I’m looking forward to share more information with you shortly”.

Users may now use the same avatars in all Meta platforms, particularly VR, thanks to the new upgrade. Any changes made to a user’s avatar in Facebook and Messenger will also be reflected on Instagram, and vice versa. Users can continue to build multiple avatars for different platforms. Meta says its mission is to make it easier for users to shift their avatar from one platform to another over time, and it hopes to offer more information on this in the future.

These new changes follow Meta’s announcement last year of new avatar choices for eyes, noses, beards, and haircuts; in order to make them more customized and diverse. Meta, on the other hand, refused to provide any figures on avatar adoption to date.
