TikTok rolls out support to combat suicide searches


TikTok recently announced some helpful features to help users struggling with mental health illnesses. This feature is very important.

These features talk about guides on wellbeing. It also supports people who are struggling with mental issues and eating disorders.

A very useful and search intervention feature is also there.  It directs users to support resources if they look up terms such as “suicide”.

TikTok said: “We care about our users and we always try our best to provide them the bests service. We want to help them in any way possible.

“That’s why we’re taking additional steps to make it easier for people to find resources on Tiktok”

These new resources will be out globally in the upcoming months. This includes a well-curated guide on eating disorders and also a feature. This will direct users to local support, including Crisis Text Line.

TikTok, including the other social media platforms, has come under scrutiny related to the impact it can have on the mental health of its users.

According to a report published by the Education Policy Institute and The Prince’s Trust earlier this year. It was found that teenagers’ mental health was affected by heavy social media usage.

TikTok’s announcement came in response to The Wall Street Journal report that stated that Instagram has figured out that in certain situations its platform could be harmful to the mental health of its users especially teenagers.
